300 House races have Democratic candidates

Yep we have hit the magical 300. 17 months before election day too. We have so many more candidates in the field this cycle than at the same time in 2005.

Once again go and take a look at the
2008 Race Tracker Wiki. & DCCritters.

Below the fold for all the news.

Praise to those states where we already have a full slate of house candidates – Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming.

It is also interesting to note that we have only one race left to fill in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and West Virginia. Thats 16 states with a full slate (17 when I can conform Unger in WV-02) and 6 states with one race to fill! That is almost half the states full or nearly full 17 months before election day, an impressive feat indeed!

Please note that in some races others at the racetracker site have confirmed candidates that I haven’t. This is because to satisfy me a confirmed candidate has either filed with the FEC, The Sec of State or has an active campaign website, or even if they come and blog and say yep I am running. Others are not so rigorous.

It is also great to see candidates in VA-06 and TX-11, 2 of 10 districts we did not contest in 2006!

We are well on track to beat the 425 races we contested in 2006.

*** Tips, rumours and what not in the comments please.***

By what margin will Bob Shamansky win?

  1. I have a question concerning how we might know if “rumored” candidates are running: if we type in what would be a campaign/candidate’s site name (if they were to be running) and it comes up as either “coming soon” or “under construction”, does that mean that they are probably in it?  A few days ago, I typed in http://www.melissafitzgerald.com and it came up w/ that message and she is listed as a rumored candidate on your list for PA-06, could that be telling?  Maybe I’m just hoping for Carol to run and it’s not a huge sign, either way, lol.

    Nice diary!!

  2. When you do these diaries, can you point out which ones are updates so we don’t have to go through the entire list.  Thanks for your work on this.

  3. As covered in this diary, State Sen. John Unger is confirmed as running for WV-02.

He has already been endorsed by Rep. Alan Mollohan (WV-01) and Rep. Nick Rahall (WV-03). (This also moves West Virginia into the states with a full slate.)

  4. Michael Calderin is running for State Representative in HD-119 against Republican Juan Zapata. I’m fully expecting him to take out Zapata even though it’s a district that voted 56-43 for Bush in 2000 but I can’t get the ’04 numbers. Hopefully we can get a good challenger to Mario Diaz-Balart but if not, Michael will be well position to take him on in 2010 or 2012.
